Move your body

Hey wandering souls

These past few weeks, I have struggled with regaining my control of my healthy habits. I spent that time beating myself up about not going to the gym or eating as healthy as I should be.

This week, I decided to take a different approach. I took a step back to evaluate how I have been doing from an outside perspective.

The real truth is, I have been active two to three times a week. I have ran, walked, hiked and went to some random workout classes. The main thing is, I have still been moving my body! I have still been investing time in my health even if it hasn’t been at the gym.

Just because you are not achieving the high standards you set for yourself does not mean you are failing!

As a traveler, I move frequently. I have had 3 different apartments in this past year. It usually takes me about a month to sort out a new routine. It also takes me just as long each time to realize that my routine will not match my old one and that is OKAY.

I have been working as a nurse for 9 years and I still struggle keeping a consistent routine. The struggle is mostly likely due to my forever changing and sporadic schedule. I am not the person to workout on my work days. After working 12 hour days, I will only be eating, sleeping and recovering. After three 12 hour shifts in a row, I will be ignoring the world until noon and resting on my first day off! These are habits I once viewed as lazy, but now I know they are essential to my routine. These moments of rest are there so I can get up and go on the days I have off.

The most important part of creating a routine is effort. It is not always a set back if you need to take a step back. Life is always changing and so are you! Keep trying! You are doing good things!
